
Physical Oceanographer (Coastal)
Partrac supports clients in a broad range of sectors including ports and harbours, dredging, marine renewables, aggregates, utilities, civil engineering and coastal management.
We require a Physical Oceanographer to conduct coastal oceanographic data acquisition and analysis projects. The responsibilities include client liaison, project planning and logistics, mooring design and deployment, sensor programming and calibration, laboratory procedures, data analysis and report writing. You will also be required to conduct offshore work and undertake shore-based fieldwork.
Experience/skills:
- A strong practical background in physical oceanography and a high-level understanding of coastal processes.
- Experience with sub-surface and surface mooring installation and servicing.
- Proven experience in programming and deployment of oceanographic instrument systems – specifically ADCP, single point current meters, CTD instrumentation, turbidity sensors, and acoustic releases.
- Competent user of MS Office and data analysis software (e.g. Matlab, Surfer).
- Ability to produce high quality written reports including discussions of technical methods and critical analysis of data.
- Capable of working independently.
- Strong planning and organisational skills.
- Ability to build effective working relationships with other staff and third parties.
- Experience of numerical modelling would be an advantage.
Qualifications should include a BSc/MSc in oceanography, engineering, or physical sciences plus 2-3 years of proven experience in physical oceanographic related projects.
