
PROJECT MANAGER
ENVIRONMENTALLY SUSTAINABLE AGGREGATES TARAWA
Through EU funding assistance the Government of Kiribati in cooperation with SOPAC requires the services of a dynamic individual to work as Project Manager for an initial period of 2 years The ESAT project aims to protect the vulnerable beaches of South Tarawa from aggregate mining by providing an alternative supply of material to meet South Tarawa’s growing aggregate demand through environmentally safe lagoon dredging.
The Project Manager is a key position within the establishment phase of the ESAT project and in consultation with the Govt. of Kiribati and SOPAC, will be responsible for the overall coordination of the establishment of the ESAT Project on Tarawa.
Requirements for this position include the following:
- Tertiary Degree in Engineering, Construction, Management or the equivalent combination of education and experience.
- 10 years related professional experience in project management for capital infrastructure projects.
- Proficient in project forecasting/scheduling cost controls, tracking and reporting methodologies and formulation of work programme and budgets.
- Knowledge of financial principles to quantify costs and benefits of projects and to track and maintain project budgets.
- Experience in managing vendors and contractors regarding work scope changes to ensure to ensure that all contract commitments are completed on time per applicable specifications.
- Demonstrated business management skills including consulting skills, customer service, and business acumen.
- Interpersonal and communication skills to facilitate team efforts, provide guidance and direction to team members, and communicate project objectives, parameters, status, and outcomes to stakeholders.
- Ability to analyze information, form conclusions and provide meaningful and creative solutions to non-typical business issues.
- Demonstrated skill in motivating and influencing others as well as skills and experience in team building and conflict management.
- Demonstrated experience in a senior project management role - preferably in the Pacific SIDS with experience in the development of State owned enterprises within a multi-stakeholder environment.
- Demonstrated experience in the aggregates industry, and equipment and in particular familiarity with marine dredging systems and operations.
- Understanding of environmental regulations, environmental impact statement, environmental assessment,
- Very strong PC based computer skills, all Microsoft platforms, MS Office, and MS Project.
- Demonstrated ability to take initiative and work under limited or no supervision.
SELECTION CRITERIA
In addition to having the above knowledge, skills and experience, applicants will be assessed based on interview performance and work sample and the following other requirements:
- Aptitude for the provision of high quality service
- Clarity, confidence and articulateness in both oral and written communication
- Strong analytical skills
- Ability to supervise others effectively
- Ability to set priorities successfully in order to meet tight deadlines
- Work experience in Kiribati and familiarity with Kiribati Language and Culture
- Willingness to travel both within (Kiribati and Fiji) and outside the region (if required)
