Van Oord takes delivery of Vox Máxima

New Vessels - January 26, 2010

Vox Máxima is now at work on the Maasvlakte project.

Dutch dredging contractor Van Oord took delivery of the trailing suction hopper dredger Vox Máxima, which was built by IHC Dredgers, on 21 January 2010, thus concluding a building period of more than two years after the cutting of the first steel plates in 2007. The vessel departed for Rotterdam, where it was put to work on the Maasvlakte 2 port expansion project.

With a hopper capacity of 31,200m3, Vox Máxima is the most recent addition to the Van Oord fleet and the biggest trailing suction hopper dredger ever built in the Netherlands.

The vessel's construction was part of a Euros 1 billion investment programme launched in 2007, continuing to 2011.

In addition to Vox Máxima, Van Oord also lengthened its trailing suction hopper dredger HAM 318 and constructed two heavy-duty backhoes, two water-injection vessels, and a number of split hoppers and sand carriers.

A flexible fallpipe vessel, split hoppers, sand carriers and a self-propelled cutter suction dredger are still under construction.
