Corps seeks comments on Gilliam County dredging permit application

The US Army Corps of Engineers is seeking comments on an application for a permit to conduct work in waters of the United States. Public Notice NWP-2000-1038 is a request by Threemile Canyon Farms for authorization to dredge an area within the Willow Creek Arm of the Columbia River between the cities of Boardman, Oregon and Arlington, Oregon.
The purpose of the project is to prevent sediment from fouling the existing irrigation intake pumps, to keep fish screens compliant with National Marine Fisheries Service criteria and to keep an adequate flow of water to the pumps, which provide water for crops and other farm uses.
The Corps is soliciting comments on this proposal from the public; federal, state and local agencies; Indian Tribes; and other interested parties. The public notice with more information is available at http://www.nwp.usace.army.mil/op/g/public.asp. Comments must be received by February 22nd.
The Corps will issue or deny this permit under authority of Section 10 of the Rivers and Harbors Act of 1899 for work in or affecting navigable waters of the United States.
