Funds proposed for dredging and maintenance at Charleston Harbour

The US Army Corps of Engineers is proposing US$18.5 million in projects for South Carolina's coastal area for the upcoming budget year.

Charleston District Engineer Lt Colonel Jason Kirk says the projects include nearly US$10 million for dredging and maintaining Charleston Harbour.

Kirk said the proposal also includes about US$320,000 for surveys and environmental compliance activities with the Georgetown Harbour project.

The proposal covers the 2011 fiscal year, which begins in October. The plan need congressional approval.
