Bridlington Marina plan takes big step forward

Various local news sources report that plans for a £50 million marina at Bridlington in the UK have moved a step closer after a preferred layout was agreed by the three main partners behind the project.

East Riding Council, the Harbour Commissioners and Yorkshire Forward have agreed an outline for a scheme that would see the creation of 320 marina berths ranging from 6m to 15m, also allowing for some larger visiting and commercial berths, and 74 commercial berths of the same dimensions.

Work is now beginning on a master plan to cover design issues, while a business plan is also being drawn up.

The council said all three groups were determined to pursue the scheme despite potential funding sources being restricted by difficulties in the economy.

The agreement follows hydrodynamic tests in and around the harbour to examine wave conditions, the movement of sediment and beach erosion.

The results showed "much improved" conditions in the harbour and no significant effect on the beaches, the council said.
