UK: support grows for river dredging plan
Project Updates - March 5, 2013
This is Gloucestershire reports that town councillors have added their support to calls to bring back the dredging of rivers in Tewkesbury.
Members backed a plan being drawn up by the town's MP Laurence Robertson and being backed by county councillor Vernon Smith. They hope to persuade the Environment Agency to dredge the rivers to reduce flooding, as used to happen regularly in the past.
Councillor Julie Greening told a town council meeting that she hoped Mr Robertson would chair a meeting with the agency on the matter early in March.
Mr Smith said: "It's an issue that we really need to reevaluate and dredge some rivers."
