New marina needs a large hole excavated
News - October 31, 2003
After three years work, proposals to extend Upton Marina, at Upton-upon-Severn in Worcestershire, have been given the go ahead by the local planning authority.Managing Director, Mike Cook, commenting that he was delighted with the outcome, also pledged that Walton Marine would do its very best to make the people of Upton proud of the new facility.
The scheme consists of a second basin to supplement the existing marina basin, plus associated infrastructure, as well as a new development of luxury hillside lodges set in an orchard environment, and waterside apartments overlooking the marina.
The proposals have been developed and modified following a lengthy public consultation process, as well as detailed negotiations with the planning authority. There has also been an extensive independent Environmental Impact Assessment.
Demand for the new development remains high, especially for berths for larger sea-going craft, as well as for the new holiday accommodation. Upton Marina has been running a waiting list for the last few years, and Marina Manager Steve Arber is confidentthat the new berths will quickly be filled.
Work on the first phase of the development, the excavation of the new basin and the commencement of the landscaping scheme, will start as soon as possible.
