Dredging starts in Republic of Congo

Dredging work has started at Pointe Noir Port in the Republic of Congo, which had not been dredged since 1987.

Channels in the African port, which is important to the offshore oil industry, had silted up to just 7m, compared to around 13m of former times.

The work is being carried out by Royal Boskalis Westminster and should be completed around the turn of the year. The work is being funded via a finance scheme put together by Rand Merchant Bank of South Africa.
